Karon Beach viewpoint, located on the southwest coast of Phuket is one of the most visited sightseeing spots on the entire island. It offers a wonderful view of Kata Noi, Kata Yai, and Karon beaches. Due to this reason, it was originally known as the Kata Viewpoint. It is also called Khao Saam Haad among the locals which translate to ‘Hill of the Three Beaches’. Karon Beach viewpoint is situated on the way to the Promthep Cape between Nai Harn Beach and Kata Noi beach in the south and looks out directly into the Andaman Sea. You can reach Karon Beach easily by taking a 10-minute drive from Kata Beach and a further 10 minutes down to Nai Harn Beach. If you are coming from Phuket resort, the drive takes around 50 minutes. The viewpoint is open for 24 hours and the entry is free of charge.
Karon Beach has a large parking space but if it is too crowded you can always park at the roadside. A number of stalls in the area provide drinks and snacks and there is also a large gazebo with seats. Some people rest for a while in the shade of the gazebos while others choose to have a chat with the well-known reggae man who is always found selling necklaces and accessories at the place.
The sunset at Karon Beach viewpoint is also an experience that stays with you for a lifetime. But if you want to get a clearer view make sure you reach there early and secure a proper spot. If you need a place for accommodation, the viewpoint also has some fancy restaurants and hotels with a kilometer. The most beautiful sight from here is a panoramic view of the three west coast beaches which stretches for eight kilometers. The closest and the smallest beach among the three is the alluring Kata Noi Beach. Then comes the beautiful shore of Kata Beach and an island called Toh Pu which means Crab Island. The long bay of Karon Beach is the icing on the cake in making this view so spectacular.
