Post breakfast, start the city tour at the Reunification Palace, the witness of the fierce Vietnam War that ended in 1975, the grand building serves as a museum today. Nearby the palace is the colonial-styled Central Post Office and the Jade Emperor Pagoda. Afternoon, continue to visit China Town. Then have a walking tour on Nguyen Hue street to take the photos of the Opera House and the Ho Chi Minh Committee (outside). From here, walking to Ben Thanh Market one of the most typical symbols of Saigon to experience the daily life of the locals and do shopping the handmade goods there. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh.
Post breakfast, leave for the Cu Chi Tunnels, one of the few remaining and most famous monuments of the Vietnam War. Beneath the ground lies 200 km of tunnels, dug by hand and inhabited by the forces of the Vietnamese guerillas during the conflict. Almost 10,000 Vietnamese guerillas were stationed in the tunnels, at the peak of the war, prior to the Tet Offensive in 1968. To this day, it remains one of the most impressive examples of how fierce the war used to be. You even can try to crawl some dozens of m on the tunnel underground to have the real experience. Return to Saigon. Free at leisure the rest of the day. Overnight in Saigon.
Leave the hustle-bustle of Ho Chi Minh City and start your trip to My Tho, a town that lies to the west of the Mekong River. Board the sampan and cruise down the river around the four beautiful islands known as Dragon, Unicorn, Phoenix and Tortoise islands. Stop over at the Unicorn Island, walk around country lane and see the orchards in bloom (in season), enjoy tropical fruits, folk songs performed by the local people and visit the fruit plantation. Try your hands on rowing a sampan through the Thoi Son canal and treat yourself to the countryside, visit the family businesses, honey-bee farm, sip on the honey tea and munch through the coconut candies. In the afternoon, head to Tan Thach village, meet the local villagers to experience the local daily life in the Mekong Delta. Return and overnight in Ho Chi Minh city.
