Known for its prim tea plantations, Coonoor is situated in the Nilgiri hills. The best time to go for a calm holiday is in its wintry months- October to March. You can travel to Coonoor through railways to Mettupalayam or fly to Coimbatore and drive towards the town where it is at a distance of 32 km from Mettupalayam, 70.4 km from Coimbatore and 19 km away from Ooty.

It is the perfect starting point for a great trekking excursion leading to Lamb’s Rock, a famous tourist spot. There is local transport easily available like taxis, autos and most importantly, the Toy Train from Mettupalyam to Ooty and Coonoor both. There is an old touristic park called Sim’s park which is famous for its beautiful trails and boating. The wellington golf course is an 18-hole golf park that is worth the visit and the Law’s falls of Coonoor features a gracious downpour. There is a special viewpoint known as the Dolphin’s nose that provides a panoramic view of the Catherine Falls and the entirety of Nilgiri Hills. Droog Fort (locally known as Bakasura Malai used by Tipu Sultan as an outpost is now a tourist attraction around 15 km away from Coonoor. Tourists need to trek for 3-4 km down to this place from Nonsuh estate. Bazaars in Coonoor sell local Toda attires that reflect their traditions of the Toda tribe. One can also choose to buy from a wide range of special herb oils like Eucalyptus oil, Lavender oil and many more. The natives of Coonoor speak Tamil; Now English is a well spoken language there too. Make sure to visit this wondrous hillstation with its pleasant atmosphere and natives.
