Biligiriranga hills, in short, known as BR Hills is a high-rise pristine hill range at a distance of 170 km from Bangalore, 85 km from Mysore and 40 km from Chamarajanagar and at a height of 5091 feet above sea level. It is situated in the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka. BR Hills is recognized for the Wildlife Sanctuary which goes by the name of BRT Wildlife Sanctuary (Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary. Linking the Eastern and Western Ghats, BR Hills includes verdurous forests with brimming wildlife. The Sanctuary is open throughout the year while it is open to everyone at 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day of the week.

It is home to many wild species of animals, insects, and birds. Bears, Panthers, Chitals, Sambhars dwell in these woods. Birds like Crested Eagle and Racket-tailed Drongo are prime species that you may see. The choicest time to visit this destination is between the months of May and October when the weather is fresh and chilly. The best way to travel is by road from all the widely connecting cities trough bus or your own vehicle. If you choose to travel by train from your city, you may arrive at Chamarajanagar: 45 km away, Nanjanagudu: 60 km away and Mysore: 85 Km away from BR hills.The closest airports are Mysore Mandakalli Airport and Kempegowda International Airport, Bangalore.On the highest peak of BR Hills, there is a white cliff present upon which the famous Rangaswamy sits which is where the name of the mountain comes from as 'Biligiri' means 'White mountain'. Many tourists trek to this temple to pay their respects to Lord Ranganatha. There are a number of bustling outdoor activities that take place on this hill station. You can go on an adventure spree by river rafting, trekking, Jeep Safari and Elephant Safari, Coracle boat riding, Fishing, Bird watching. Inside a temple on the banks of the river Bhargavi, lies a 34 meters high and 20 m broad Champak Tree which the local Soliga tribe commonly call it as 'Dodda Sampige Mara'. They believe that it is 2000 years old and is the home of Lord Ranganatha.Staying in the rich wilderness of BR Hills is a feeling like no other as it gives you the chance to release all the stress and tension that you build up due to your city life.
