Kotagiri, in all its natural glory, is situated in the Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu. Famous for its Nilgiri tea and 'Thailam' (Eucalyptus oil, the hill station has the ultimate plantations. While visiting Ooty, staying in this region is highly recommended. The best time to visit Kotagiri is in the summer when the weather is absolutely pleasant. Kotagiri has the best fog-pecked tea plantations and also the 'Doddabeta' range which is the highest mountain in the Nilgiris Mountains.

The nearest airport is Coimbatore International Airport which is roughly 100 km from Kotagiri. You must hire a cab or take a bus. Kotagiri is 29 Km from Ooty, 63 Km from Coimbatore, 126 Km from Erode, 194 Km from Salem, 258 Km from Trichy and 294 Km from Bangalore so there are easily acquirable bus facilities. The nearest train station (Coimbatore is around 21 km from Kotagiri if you want to travel to Kotagiri by the railways. Amidst the hypnagogic mountains, there is a wondrous waterfall destination known as the 'Catherine falls' that cascades 250 ft. below. Other dreamlike waterfalls that you must see are ‘Elk Falls' and 'Uyilatti Falls'. A great collector whose name was John Sullivan fell in love with the beauty of Kotagiri and resided in a double-storied red bungalow now known as 'Sullivan Memorial' is a historically rich place that everyone must visit and take a glimpse at the portraits, newspaper filings, and artefacts that belonged to the different tribes there. The sweet memorial is located 2 km away from Kotagiri in 'Kannerimukku'. A number of families from the 'Toda' tribe with their culturally dense background reside in the Shola forests and you may visit and view their customs and ways of living firsthand. Kotagiri is the picturesque destination with its complete tranquillity that you might want to visit for a serene and an offbeat holiday.
